THE HIKE

While hiking through Eastern Europe, Jack, an adventurous young hiker recalls the stressful family events leading up to his departure. Near the beginning of his journey he accidentally falls down the side of a cliff. Bloody, broken and paralyzed he slowly realizes his deadly predicament. Unable to move, flashbacks of his life grow more intense and ultimately reveal a tragic family history. Alone on the cliff, hours turn to days and his body slowly shuts down. Staying alive becomes secondary for Jack and justifying his reckless past while facing death becomes an emotional and heart-wrenching battle.

Production for The Hike began in August of 2001 and was shot over eight days. Great Falls Park, Virginia was selected as the primary shooting location after a month of location scouting. Since the story  takes place in The Czech Republic, Great Falls provided a picturesque yet unforgiving background that would successfully double as Eastern Europe.  Director Bob Walters, director of photography Jason Oberdin and lead actor Josh Green spent four days shooting the majority of the emotional scenes on a cliff face along the Potomac River.

The Hike was edited at Arlington Community Television. The musical score was then written and recorded with students at West Springfield High School in Springfield, Virginia.  Sound designer Ben Seaward produced the sound and music at Henninger Media in Arlington.  The Hike premiered at the Arlington Cultural Affairs Incubator Series at The Rosslyn Spectrum in December of 2001.  It has since aired on several DC area cable channels as well as entered the film and video festival circuit.
